The 15th Tsinghua Alumni Table Tennis Tournament Concludes Successfully, Sino-Telecom Continues Its Support for Tsinghua Table Tennis

On April 25, 2026, during the 15th anniversary celebrations of Tsinghua University, the 15th Tsinghua Alumni Table Tennis Tournament was successfully held at the North Gymnasium of Tsinghua University. More than 200 alumni from across China gathered to compete and connect through table tennis, celebrating their alma mater and continuing the tradition of “No Sports, No Tsinghua.”

Tournament Overview

As a corporate supporter of Tsinghua alumni table tennis, Sino-Telecom served as one of the co-sponsors of this year’s event.
Since 2019, when Sino-Telecom hosted the 9th Tsinghua Alumni Team Table Tennis Tournament in Shanghai, the company has continuously supported the Tsinghua alumni table tennis tournament and related club activities for eight consecutive years. The 2019 team tournament hosted by Sino-Telecom was widely praised by participating alumni for its professional organization and high-quality experience, and is still well remembered by participants today.

Long-Term Support for Facilities and Training

In addition to event sponsorship, Sino-Telecom has provided long-term support for the development of Tsinghua table tennis infrastructure and training programs.
In April 2023, Sino-Telecom built the Beiguang Table Tennis Hall, equipped with two table tennis tables, featuring a spacious and comfortable environment. The venue hosts more than three training avtivities per week and has become a core location for table tennis among Tsinghua alumni in Beijing.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, to further meet the growing demand for alumni activities, Sino-Telecom invested in the construction of the Meiguili Table Tennis Hall, designed as a “Tsinghua Alumni Table Tennis Clubhouse” standard venue. The facility is equipped with four table tennis tables, offering improved indoor and outdoor environments. It is capable of hosting mid-sized high-level competitions and provides more professional training and competition space for both alumni and the Tsinghua University table tennis team.
Since 2024, Sino-Telecom has also supported the daily training and external competitions of the Tsinghua University table tennis team through equipment donations and participation in external tournament support.

Opening Ceremony and Distinguished Guests

The opening ceremony was attended by Tsinghua University leadership and representatives, including:
  • Vice Party Secretary of Tsinghua University Guo Yong
  • Representatives from the Tsinghua Alumni Association, including Wang Yan, Chen Weiqiang, and Zhu Liang
  • Faculty members from the Department of Physical Education, including Liu Bo and Hu Kai
  • Sino-Telecom Chairman Tiger Xie
  • Vice President of Century 2000 Network Ding Lei
International-level referee Wang Xin served as the chief referee of the tournament.
In recognition of Sino-Telecom’s long-term contributions, Zhu Liang, Deputy Secretary-General of the Tsinghua Alumni Association, presented Sino-Telecom with a “Special Contribution Award.”
Following the award ceremony, Wang Yan, Chen Weiqiang, Tiger Xie, and table tennis world champion Liu Guozheng jointly performed the ceremonial first serve. Vice Party Secretary Guo Yong officially declared the tournament open.

Competition Format and Highlights

The tournament featured four events: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles, divided into age-based or combined age categories.
From the morning round-robin group stage to the afternoon knockout and consolation rounds, alumni ranging from 82 years old to industry professionals competed on the same stage, fully demonstrating the spirit of lifelong fitness and the Tsinghua tradition of “working for national health for fifty years.”
In the men’s singles 40–50 age group, Sino-Telecom employee Gao Yang delivered a strong performance, advancing through multiple rounds and ultimately winning the championship. The audience responded with continuous applause and cheers.

With awards presented across all categories, the 15th Tsinghua Alumni Table Tennis Tournament concluded successfully.

Cultural Program

During the tournament, a special book launch ceremony was also held for Liu Guozheng’s new publication, adding a cultural dimension to the sporting event and enriching the alumni gathering experience.

The company will continue contributing to alumni engagement, sports development, and the inheritance of Tsinghua’s sports culture.
