The first donation for the Tsinghua University "Deng Jiaxian Scholarship" comes from Sino-Telecom Technology Co., Inc. (referred to as "Sino-Telecom"), founded by 1992 alumnus Xie Hu. The ceremony was attended by Guo Yong, Deputy Secretary of the Tsinghua University Party Committee; Yuan Wei, Secretary General of the Education Foundation; Zhao Cen, Minister of the Student Affairs Department; representatives from the drama group and party branch of "The Blooming of Malan"; and Wang Rui, Secretary of the Youth League Committee, who hosted the event.
Speech by Xie Hu
Xie Hu expressed his honor to gather at his alma mater on the occasion of Deng Jiaxian’s 100th birthday, to deeply remember Deng Jiaxian’s achievements, character, and spirit. Representing Sino-Telecom, Xie Hu supports the establishment of the “Deng Jiaxian Scholarship” at Tsinghua University, hoping to encourage students to inherit the great spirit of Deng Jiaxian and courageously advance along the path of China’s technological development. Reflecting on the past and the legacy of Deng Jiaxian, Xie emphasized the unchanging passion and faith of Tsinghua people. Facing new challenges in the field of technology, Sino-Telecom is committed to working with alumni to stay true to their mission, follow in Deng Jiaxian’s footsteps, and accelerate high-level technological self-reliance and strength. As Sino-Telecom continues to grow, they hope to make ongoing contributions to the “Deng Jiaxian Scholarship.”
Speech by Guo Yong
On behalf of Tsinghua University, Guo Yong expressed heartfelt respect and gratitude to alumnus Xie Hu. Guo highlighted the significance of today, the 100th anniversary of Deng Jiaxian’s birth, and the establishment of the “Deng Jiaxian Scholarship” to honor patriotic dedication and the pursuit of excellence. Tsinghua University has created the drama "The Blooming of Malan" featuring Deng Jiaxian, which will celebrate its 100th performance at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in September. A series of activities, including themed party and youth league events, will also be held to pass down the spirit of Deng Jiaxian and other pioneering scientists. The university will maximize the scholarship’s impact, guiding students to learn from and inherit the noble qualities of the older generation of scientists. This will motivate young people to serve the country through science and technology in the new era, contributing to high-level technological self-reliance and the development of a strong educational and technological nation.
Speech by Zhao Cen
Zhao Cen introduced the background of the "Deng Jiaxian Scholarship," emphasizing that student awards are a crucial part of the university’s educational work. Tsinghua University has established a comprehensive student award system, supported by the state, alumni, and various sectors of society. The evaluation of scholarships prioritizes moral integrity, exploring the spiritual significance of each award, such as those named after Tsinghua figures like Jiang Nanxiang and Wang Dazhong. The establishment of the “Deng Jiaxian Scholarship” is both a tribute to Deng Jiaxian and an encouragement to young students. This September, the first group of 20 outstanding students will receive the scholarship, and it is hoped that the donation will inspire more Tsinghua students to follow Deng Jiaxian’s example and take on their mission in the new journey of national rejuvenation.
