From May 16th to 17th, the 2024 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day Conference was held in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province.
This conference, hosted by the China Institute of Communications, focused on the theme of "Digital Innovation Empowering New Industrialization." It aimed to explore how digital innovation can improve life, enhance the understanding and use of ICT by industry enterprises and local governments, provide references for the innovative development of the national digital industry, and promote the sustainable development of the social economy.
At the opening ceremony on the morning of May 17th, Zhang Yunming, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, delivered a keynote speech titled "Carrying on the Past, Leading the Future, and Working Together to Write a New Chapter of Development." Peng Jiaxue, member of the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Ningbo Municipal Party Committee, and Zhao Houlin, Honorary Chairman of the China Institute of Communications and former Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, also delivered speeches.
In his speech, Vice Minister Zhang Yunming emphasized that since the 18th CPC National Congress, under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, China's information and communication industry has modernized and developed significantly, contributing Chinese wisdom and solutions to the global digital field. He stressed the importance of scientific and technological innovation, the need to accelerate breakthroughs in core technologies, and the importance of application innovation to boost economic development. Zhang highlighted the need to integrate 5G with the industrial Internet to facilitate digital transformation, network connectivity, and the creation of a comprehensive service system in education, healthcare, and elderly care.
Zhao Houlin noted that China's Belt and Road Initiative has showcased the country's digital development achievements. He emphasized that promoting the digital technology revolution requires not only innovative scientific research talents but also the collective efforts of various social forces to gather resources, reshape the industry ecosystem, and jointly advance global industrialization.
Representatives from telecom operators, including Shao Guanglu, general manager and deputy secretary of the Party Committee of China Telecom Corporation Limited, He Biao, general manager and deputy secretary of the Party Committee of China Mobile Communications Group Corporation Limited, Jian Qin, general manager and deputy secretary of the Party Committee of China Unicom Group Corporation Limited, Zeng Qingjun, deputy general manager of China Radio and Television Network Group Corporation Limited, and Chen Li, general manager and deputy secretary of the Party Committee of China Tower Corporation Limited, gave in-depth reports on their fields' latest developments and future prospects.
The conference featured 13 parallel special forums on topics such as intelligent computing integration and innovative development, smart ocean, the future of AI terminals, network security and privacy protection, and trusted intelligent computing integration and co-creation. The opening ceremony of the Ningbo National Internet Backbone Direct Connection Point and the commercial promotion of 5G cross-network roaming were also held. Experts and scholars from government, industry, and academia conducted extensive discussions.
Xie Hu, Chairman of Sino-Telecom Technology Co., Inc., attended the conference and delivered a keynote speech at the "Empowering Thousands of Industries" session of the Integration of Intelligent Computing and Innovation Development Forum on the morning of May 16th. In his speech, Mr. Xie highlighted Sino-Telecom's innovations in open network connections and intelligent computing and expressed the company's commitment to promoting digital transformation and upgrading traditional industries.
Before the conference's official opening on May 17th, leaders from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Secretary Peng Jiaxue, Secretary Zhao Houlin, and leaders from the major telecom operators visited the conference booths. At the Sino-Telecom booth, Xie Hu showcased various network and security solutions developed by Sino-Telecom, including 12.8T intelligent computing switches supporting RoCE V2, 400G/800G intelligent computing center interconnection equipment, and network visualization equipment for network security and information security in intelligent computing centers. These solutions are also applicable to Internet anti-fraud systems.
